Fräsus Maximus - Router Sled for Flattening Wood Slabs
Design & function
Explained part by part.
Tap an assembly and I'll show you what it does and why it's built that way. Use the size switch to see each variant to scale.
Scope of delivery
Everything you need for flattening.

Beam unit, pre-assembled
Two steel beams with ball guides and base plate – comes fully assembled from my workshop.
Adjustment plates
They carry the beam unit and run on rollers in the rails. You set the height via the slot.
Aluminium rails, 1500 mm each
2 pieces for 150 cm length, 4 pieces for 300 cm. Each rail set (€32,50) extends the long axis by 150 cm.
Push handle
For guiding the router while standing upright – it sits in the swivel joint on the base plate.
Extraction adapters
For common extraction hoses – nothing extra to buy. Different diameter? I'll make it for you free of charge on request.
Star knobs
Use them to lock the set height on the adjustment plates – without tools.
Clip-on dust shoe
Holds magnetically under the base plate and comes off and goes back on in seconds.
Screws for the router
Suitable for common routers. Not in the photo – supplied in a separate bag.
Dust extraction compared
For everyone who'd rather mill than clean.
Real footage from my workshop: the same slab once without extraction, once with the magnetic clip-on dust shoe.

Compatibility
Will my router fit?
Find your model in the list – or check the bolt circle yourself in 30 seconds.
So far every one of my customers' routers has fitted – not a single one was incompatible. Not sure? Send me your model and I'll check it in advance so you can be completely sure.
Have my model checked47 models are already in use by my customers
Nicht in der Liste? No problem – it just means nobody has tested it with me yet. Check the bolt circle or send me your model.
Measure the distance between two opposite mounting holes on your router. Up to 166 mm it sits centred on the base plate; larger bolt circles can be mounted off-centre. M6, M5 and M4 screws are included.
For heavy stock removal per pass I recommend 2000 W or more; with a few more passes, around 1000 W is enough. I use a Trend T14EK with 2300 W myself.

So far every one of my customers' routers has fitted. What matters is the bolt circle of the mounting screws: up to 166 mm the router sits centred; larger bolt circles can be mounted off-centre. M6, M5 and M4 screws are included.

There are four sizes from 150 × 100 to 300 × 150 cm. You extend the long axis with rail sets: 2 × 1500 mm with connector for €32,50, +150 cm per set – with 6 rails, for example, to 4.5 m. I can build a narrower cross axis on request – the travel is then the length minus 25 cm.
My best-value tip is the Tornado flattening bit by Fraiser with a 35 mm diameter. The indexable inserts can be rotated and replaced.
3–5 mm per pass is typical – depending on wood species, bit and the power of your router. Better one pass too many than too much at once.
Use conventional milling. That keeps the sled easy to control and the bit can't “run away” uncontrollably.
Yes, that's exactly what it's built for: solid wood and hardwood, tree slices and end grain, epoxy resin tables, glued-up table tops and cutting boards.
About 5 minutes – the beam unit comes pre-assembled. I show you how, step by step, in the assembly video.
Ideally on a flat, rigid base, for example OSB boards on the floor. With two fixing points per 1500 mm rail, they sit securely and compensate for unevenness.
If it's in stock, it ships with DPD – to Germany usually within 2–3 working days.
The box measures approx. 156 × 42 × 20 cm; the sled weighs around 23 kg.
The Fräsus Maximus comes with a 5-year warranty. Only natural wear on rollers, guide blocks and dust shoe is excluded. You can return it within 14 days if it is unused and complete.
Fräsus Maximus – the router sled for large wood surfaces
The Fräsus Maximus is built for everyone who wants to flatten large wood surfaces cleanly and perfectly level – without time-consuming rework.
Whether it's a wide solid wood slab, an epoxy resin table or a tree slice: a rigid steel frame, play-free precision guides and an ergonomic push handle ensure a smooth, controlled finish – exactly where conventional or home-made solutions reach their limits.
Still unsure which one to choose? Our guide shows what really matters when buying a router sled.
Available in several sizes – from compact to XXL
The Fräsus Maximus isn't just made for giant slabs: four sizes cover everything from small projects to massive table tops.
- 150 × 100 cm and 150 × 120 cm – compact for cutting boards, smaller panels and limited space
- 300 × 120 cm and 300 × 150 cm – for large table tops, wide planks and tree slices
Simply choose the right size in the selection above. Wide wood slabs can be flattened without any problem too – with optional rail extensions, the sled grows with your projects.
Controlled router guidance thanks to an innovative swivel joint
At its heart is a custom-developed swivel joint.
Its structure – specifically designed for additive manufacturing – guides the router steadily and smoothly, even when high lateral forces occur during conventional milling.
The result: precise movements without jamming, even with demanding materials. A detail you won't find in this form on any other sled.
Solid steel frame instead of aluminium
The main structure is made of solid steel profiles and achieves a stiffness that exceeds conventional 40×40 mm aluminium extrusions by up to 700 %.
This effectively prevents deflection, vibrations and an uneven finish – for flat surfaces straight off the router and significantly less sanding afterwards.
Play-free guidance for flat surfaces
Precise ball and roller guides move the router across the workpiece accurately and without play.
Unlike simple slide guides, there's no play to compensate for – the movement stays even and repeatable.
The result is flat surfaces without waves, without tool marks and without visible transitions.
Clean work with integrated dust extraction
The magnetic clip-on dust shoe extracts chips right at the cutter and can be swapped in seconds.
Matching extraction adapters for 100 mm, 50 mm and 35 mm are included – nothing extra to buy.
Fewer chips on the surface mean a better view of the cutting area: more milling, less cleaning.
Made in Austria
Every Fräsus Maximus is built entirely in the Tüftlerei workshop in Austria, more precisely in Taufkirchen an der Pram.
Key components are machined on our own CNC router from high-quality film-faced plywood and complemented by durable 3D-printed parts – designed for ergonomics, stability and a long service life.
Before shipping, every sled is assembled by hand, inspected and put through a full functional test. Only systems that run flawlessly are shipped.
What the Fräsus Maximus is made for
The idea came from wanting to flatten very wide hardwood slabs – without the typical weaknesses of off-the-shelf sleds such as deflection, play or tool marks.
Ideal for flattening:
- XXL solid wood and hardwood
- epoxy resin and wood tables
- end grain and flattening tree slices
- glued-up table tops
- cutting boards
Clean, flat and controlled – on every project.
